The parties have not finalized the salary and wage increase for the period 1 July 2011 to 30 June 2012. Two disputes were declared by the trade unions and SALGA respectively.

The Interpretation and Application Dispute (referred by SALGA), in HQ051115 was finalised at arbitration held on 21 June 2011 and the award was issued on 5 July 2011. The Mutual Interest Dispute (referred by IMATU and SAMWU), in HQ041106, was conciliated on 19 May 2011 and 12 July 2011 respectively. A Point in Limine Ruling was issued in the first conciliation hearing.

The conciliation resumed on 2 August 2011 and a certificate of unresolved was issued by the conciliator. SAMWU and IMATU embarked on industrial action. The SALGBC appointed a mediator to settle the wage dispute, which was not successful.  The wage mediation broke down without a wage agreement.  Both trade unions suspended the strike as per their notice dated 30 August 2011.

The wage dispute between SALGA, on the one hand and IMATU / SAMWU, on the other hand, remains unresolved.
